TAG (38) - Livelihood Options For Small-scale Farmers

Read more Livelihood Options For Small-scale Farmers. (Chapter 38). Assume that I am a small-scale African farmer. "What livelihood options do I have in order to create myself a better future?" 1. Not to change. Continue what I am doing. 2. Grow something more profitable, like vegetables. 3. Grow something even more profitable, like fruits. 4. Take advantage of size, by creating cooperatives. 5. Find my livelihood NOT from traditional farming, but from some industry, service, etc.

TAG (36) - The Macro History of Making A Living

Read more IS LESS (farmers) IS MORE (success)? This is a 7 million years historical lesson from HOMININS MAKING A LIVING (Hominins are all species on the human line for about 7M years of evolution). We understand that agricultural export is the way forward for the farmers and the state. But, before we kick in, let's ask: 1. What are the characteristics of farmers who will export? Who is our focus group? 2. What is the portion of farmers who will export? All farmers (100%), 70%, 30%, 10%, 1%? One way of getting answers is by looking DEEP BACK into history, and learn how things worked for us, Human, throughout our common evolution and history. More in the video.

TAG (42) - The Need For A Recipe

Read more If we want to change Agriculture, we need to know where we are now, where we want to get, and a Roadmap, which is kind of a Recipe, of how to get there. Green Valley is that Roadmap/Recipe for changing from Traditional Agriculture to Agro-Industry.

TAG (35) - National Goal Requires National Project

Read more The agri-industry is such a major sector in most African and Asian countries that it is not possible to make a significant change (meaning a change at the state level) without the launch of a NATIONAL PROJECT. Accordingly, a NATIONAL PROJECT is a prerequisite for a significant change in that sector, and especially if we wish to start export or increase it.

The Agricultural Gap. 29 - Contemporary Agri-business Opportunities

Read more From a business point of view, opportunities were never better for farmers and anyone involved in agriculture. Why? Because the world population is growing fast, there are more rich people than ever and the middle class is growing fast. Those segments in the market are looking for high-quality products and many times do not find it. This is a great opportunity for countries and companies that will use the moment to increase exports of high-quality produce.

Science & Technology

The Agricultural Gap (24) - Africa and The Agricultural Package

Read more Regarding Agriculture in Africa, and other places where agriculture is not advanced and farmers are poor, we are dealing with two questions - (1) Why agriculture is so far behind? and (2) What we should do to bridge that gap (in the fastest way)? Once we agree that Africa's agricultural case is not unique in the long-term histories of peoples we open an opportunity to study and copy from cases where agriculture developed well and fast. At the same time, we keep away from unsuccessful attempts.

The Agricultural Gap (27) - Preview for the final part

Read more I started working on the next chapters that will join the existing 26 chapters (wow!) of The Agricultural Gap series. I am excited! In the next chapters, I will focus on economic and business models, technologies, and practical ways of applying advanced agriculture in Africa and Asia. I will emphasize how we can increase the INCOME OF FARMERS in those two continents by hundreds of percent in the shortest time. Stay with me by Following and Subscribe. But above all, let me know what you think by adding your 2 cents of thinking about the topic. A link to all chapters of The Agricultural Gap series until now https://lnkd.in/gDihzZ4

The Agricultural Gap (26) - Healthy Proportions (for Economic Segments)

Read more Every business sector can exist and thrive within a reasonable limit of its size. When a particular sector is too large or too small, then problems that affect the entire economy are created. In countries where the agricultural sector is particularly large (double-digit), it is a clear signal of inefficiencies and low output. An expected outcome is low income and poverty.

TAG (32) - Nations Too Need To Create Value

Read more A country with Rich Farmers is a Rich Country. A country with Poor Farmers is a Poor Country. In order to have Rich farmers, the country needs to create VALUE for them. Giving charity or child support is not the same as creating value. However, creating the right environment for the farmers to thrive and make a better life, IS CREATING HUGE VALUE.

The Agricultural Gap (25)- Agriculture = Industry

Read more Agriculture is an industry just like any other industry. Although it has its unique issues, like other industries, each with its unique issues, we can still learn a lot by looking how other industries involved in countries outside Africa. In this videoI use a case study of the Auto industry in Korea and the high-tech industry in Israel. I show how a country can start a new industry practically from scratch, and succeed. We can use that lesson also to develop agriculture in African countries.

Science & Technology

The Agricultural Gap (28) - Targets

Read more Here are my 3 Targets for Nations wherever they are regarding the agri-industry. These Targets are especially relevant for countries with high percentage of population dealing with agriculture. 1. Increase the income of farmers. 2. Increase the influx of foreign currency to the country. 3. Increase Happiness.

The Agricultural Gap (16) - The Concept of 'A Package'

Read more The concept of 'A Package'. Looking back at endless African initiatives and projects that Failed, we ask, WHY? We then study the failure and we find did something was missing. It maybe that the missing part was technology, or know how, or training, or financial, or conflict of interest, or market, on many other things. The concept of PACKAGE memes that - to succeed you need all of the things to work well together at the same time. Inability to do so will probably result the failure of the project.

The Agricultural Gap (17) - Summary: Guns, Germs and Steel

Read more Summary of 'Guns, Germs and Steel', a book by Jared Diamond. In long-terms histories of people, four sets of differences pre-determined who will succeed and who will not. 1. The system of InterContinental differences. It determines the potential of food production in species of wild plants and wildlife found as a homegrown material. 2. The intercontinental system - it affects the rate of expansion and migration within the continent. 3. Factors affecting expanding between continents. 4. Differences in area size and population size. I also discussed the issues of Innovation and the concept of The Package, which affects the success rate of populations.

The agricultural gap (12) - Differenses in Intra-continental Connectivity

Read more Communication has always been important for the development of peoples and agriculture. In ancient times, the ABILITY to communicate between people, tribes, and nations had to do with the physical ability to cross the distance between them. That had to do with the intra-continent terrain and climate. In many cases, ancient American kingdoms did not know the one about the other even when the distance between them was only hundreds of kilometers away. In contrast, ancient Greeks knew very well about Indians and Chinese thousands of kilometers away. According to Jared Diamond, intra-continental connectivity reflects on the ability of expansion and migration of peoples and therefore it is a key factor in the development of agriculture.

Read more Why some peoples developed agriculture before others? How come the African economy and agriculture progress so slowly? "The Anna Karenina principle states that a deficiency in any one of a number of factors dooms an endeavor to failure. Consequently, a successful endeavor (subject to this principle) is one where every possible deficiency has been avoided." (Wikipedia) It enables us to explain differences between peoples and two predict what will succeed and what will fail.

The agricultural gap (7) - Share of Agriculture in Total Employment

Read more In advanced agricultural countries, less than 5% of the workforce do farming. And today even 5% is a high number. Unlike it, in the less developed agri-economies often 50%, and more, of the workforce do farming. Advancing agriculture means more skilled, competent, and professional farmers. This will always result in overall fewer farmers. Consequences are profound and must be met. In the process of becoming an advanced agri-economy, many farmers will need to find alternative ways to make a living.

Long-terms histories of peoples (11,000 years) show that - * All peoples have the same potential to develop, once they have the opportunity. * The 'environment' predetermine who will succeed and who will not. * Food production, that is agriculture, developed faster where the overall conditions (i.e. environments) were more favorable. Today's situation of peoples is the result of their long-term histories.

The Agricultural Gap (2) - I Wonder

Read more Naive questions are the best. I love to doubt the very basic things that people count as 'obvious'. My greatest findings always came when I started with a basic and simple question. The same I do with the agriculture dilemma of the huge gap between the West and the rest of the world. So I was wondering - * WHY there is this gap? * WHY Israel's and India's agriculture is so different, although both countries received independence nearly at the same time? * WHY do Israelis need to teach Indians about mango growing when mango originated from India, while in Israel it is a relatively new crop with a growing area of only 0.1% in compared to India? The same questions are true when it comes to other countries depending on agriculture, yet lagging far behind the leading agricultural countries. Why?
